New Year Dragon

We've been invited to a New Year celebration  and asked to make a dragon. Here is the beginning of this black water dragon. The first photo is the head and the second the beautifully dyed yellow fabric. We decided to dye some muslin instead of buying a heavier cotton canvas duct and it really turned out well. I can only imagine that this success will inspire more washing machine dyes. It will be a fast and furiously dragoning around here for the rest of the weekend.

Elastic bobbin ....... DIY

This shirt was made from a simple t-shirt. Sig asked me if she could re design a shirt and quick as a wink the arms and neck were cut off and elastic bobbin stitches were sewn into the waist and near the shoulders. By the end of the evening she had made a second with puffed sleeves and elastic at the bottom of the shirt.

  1. Design your shirt and then cut off any parts of the shirt that you don't want.
  2. Gently wrap elastic thread around the bobbin being careful not to stretch it.
  3. Use a colored thread for the top thread.
  4. Sew all seams adding an inch of forward and backward stitching at each end so the threads won't slip.
  5. Spray the sewn seams with a squirt bottle.
  6. Press with a hot iron and magically the seams will really shrink up and gather.
  7. Admire your work and let your parents oogle over your wonderfulness!

Ambitiousness

Love the beginning of these leg warmers. Knit completely by the heart and soul of my daughter. I am not to help with this project. Ambition is bubbling up and will warm those little legs right up.

Mini fingers make mini treats

We love Sculpey! We usually have a tangled goulash of colors in a shoebox. It is always a treat to go out and get a new supply of pristine colors. We have always loved this clay. It is a totally different consistency than play doh. You can really get great detail and it bakes hard in the oven. The trickiest part of the kids creations has always been transporting them onto a baking pan and not letting my big adult fingers squish any wings or arms or ice cream swirls. I think our buffet has displayed hundreds of animals, fantastical creatures, foods and vehicles over their childhood. Try it, you'll like it.

We're looking up the word accumulate tonight for vocabulary tonight. A good word to understand. I think there is a certain unawareness in this form of a gathering. Loving the way these mandala layers accumulate color to color and ring to ring.

Sig :: Birthday Card

There is so much art flourishing in this house from the smallest member of the family that I have decided with her permission to make a weekly post of all this goodness that we oogle over. She is so generous with it, giving it to friends and family that her young chi is sparkling and angelic. Sooo thankful. This is Sig's post. She hasn't come up with a weekly post name yet but whatever she decides that is what I'll call it.

Once Upon A Time

First this little drawing was on the table and then this blue looped top charmer appeared. I don't know the story. Sometimes they just write themselves.
