- Actually I think we covered the basics and I don't really have a perfect way to smooth the surface but that is the beauty of the mache. There is a certain amount of pedimente with all the layers of paper. The smaller the pieces of newspaper you use the less there will be little ripples and bumps. I think also the trick is in the tissue paper. It is so thin and can make more of a smooth surface. You can also just use its particular color to color your piece. I usually use a brush to paint the surface and lay the tissue down and then brush glue on top of it. Mod Podge works great and is the right consistency.
- Painting is the last preference. I have used flocking on the surface which works great. This would be an instance where you would use per say red tissue on the outermost layer and then use red flocking on top. They compliment each other and then hide any open spaces.
