This is a birthday present for a friend. Nine is really the perfect age don't you think? They are really fun, they still play with toys, they are really smart, the can write reports and they have this ability to flow between imagination and reality with the skills of an accomplished machinist. Well, this is really her first major pattern. It was totally Signe's idea and I just followed closely behind her and made patterns of her drawings and fabric cuttings as fast as she cut them out. You can lose a pattern if it gets sewn together so I made a copy of everything she cut out. I love the can shape of the body and the short tentacles. We filled the tentacles with beans in the tips and filled the rest will polyfill. There is also a small layer of beans in the base and the rest is filled with poly. Our first birthday present was a giant seahorse but we haven't made a duplicate yet. The next project is in the works. She picked out some shimmery transparent fabric that switches from blue to green as your turn it. Hmmmmmmmm, how about a jelly fish????? Yes times nine.
